I was selling my Jeep Cherokee and the buyer wanted to get it inspected before purchasing it. The buyer decided to go to this location since it was close to our work but neither of us had been there. The Jeep that I was selling had annual tune-ups at the dealership and was in good shape but not great. There were some cosmetic issues but according to the Jeep dealership, the engine and rest were working correctly. Upon taking the car to this place to get inspected, they said it required $2800 to pass. Now I don't know much about cars and fixing them up, but I could sense something was off when it came to issues they were bringing up. One was that the front bumper had a crack in it. I was expecting them to say that it needs to be replaced since it would not function correctly with a crack in it similar to a motorcycle helmet. But the inspector said that it barely passed because it wouldn't catch someone's pants if they walked by and snagged themselves on it. What does this have to do with how a car functions? Obviously they get to pick and choose who gets to pass inspection which also puts money in their pocket so there is clearly a conflict of interest. This is a big problem in the state of Maryland (among many other things) and one that may never change. I couldn't give this a 1 star since they seemed to be thorough and were very nice to work with that day and quick. Just be cautious because we took the car to another state inspector and the only thing that had to be changed were the brake pads (this place also said to change those) and it cost $200. This is a large margin of error between two places looking at the same car. Be warned.

Marty, thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Getting a vehicle inspected before selling or buying is always recommended. My service director and I took a brief moment to check our service history and the last Jeep Cherokee that was inspected, let alone serviced here, was November 2017--and it passed so I would really like a chance to review your particular invoice, inspection report and visit notes and make sure we were in fact the facility that took care of you, your vehicle and your buyer. To clarify a few points on the bumper in particular COMAR states "Reject Vehicle If: Abnormal protrusions or conditions are present which could be hazardous to persons." When it comes to inspections, we do not get to pick and choose who passes and who does not; we are mandated to follow Maryland COMAR. When it comes to how your vehicle is repaired, we will make recommendations that meet not only the COMAR criteria, but also those that in the best interests of the customer, the vehicle and our company. So again, I invite you to please contact me so I can see the variance for myself because I wholeheartedly agree the margin is large.

I would not refer ANYONE to this establishment. It is a money grab looking to take advantage of the hardworking people that need work done on cars. The inspection given by the manager included things that made other mechanics laugh with obscene prices. She looked for any way she could get an extra buck. After getting it inspected at a mechanic who I trust and know isn't out to rip people off, my car is fixed for 250 dollars not the 2000 dollars the manager gave us as an estimate. Avoid this place.

I had an appointment for a state inspection. The man who does the inspections had to leave suddenly (which I understand), but they failed to call me to notify of this. I had to take time off of work to make this appointment. I am very disappointed. Updated: A. Anthony's reached out to me to apologize. Earlier that day, a nail got stuck in my tire. They looked at it for free, and while I needed a new tire, if it would have been able to been plugged they would have done it for free. I look forward to doing business here in the future

This detailed account of your experience including relaying the corrective actions my team took to remedy the situation is exactly the type of feedback I need to offer excellent service consistently. Thank you, and like you we look forward to taking care of you and your vehicle!

I have been going to A. Anthony's since 2007. First with a used 97 Grand Cherokee. Then my New 2010 Rangler Rubicon. Always have been satisfied with the service.

Thank you for being such a long-time, loyal customer. I look forward to taking care of your family and your vehicles for many years to come!

I would give it 0 rating if there was one, but they are super slow and disrespectful when you walk in. They try to use every opportunity to take your money. They even fail your state inspection for no reason so they can collect re-inspection fee when you come back. I would not recommend anyone to go there at ALL.

I am sorry to hear that your experience left you feeling this way. I take great pride in providing our clients with utmost respect and unparalleled customer service. During our initial phone conversation for your original visit for a state inspection, I was very specific with when we could get your service started and met that expectation. I realize that when a vehicle fails inspection, it can be frustrating and disappointing. The guidelines for components that pass and fail are clearly outlined by the state and we are mandated to follow those standards. By exercising your right to have your vehicle's defects repaired by another person or facility, we did have to reinspect several components and perform a complete tint inspection to certify that all of the defects had been repaired. Visual items do not have a reinspection fee, however, components that require testing, measuring, or in some cases disassembly, do have a fee. We do our best to inform our clients of the reinspection policies as well as include them on the inspection report that you receive in print and via email--30 days or 1,000 miles to repair any defects, 3 days notice for reinspection services, and that a reinspection fee may apply. You did not have an appointment for a reinspection and the repairs were not performed at our facility. While we gladly and respectfully receive walk-ins, our inspectors have to accommodate clients on a first-come first-served basis. We had three full inspections in front of you and communicated the time expectation to you. We even made sure you had an alternative for tags, titling, and registration should the MVA close before you could get there. Our intent is to always help and take care of our clients. Please feel free to contact me anytime to discuss this further if you wish. Thank you for the opportunity to help.
